A native Chicagoan, Maureen began her young adult life believing she would eventually become a classical music star, only to find out, after 10 years of study including a Northwestern University music scholarship award, that she should have gone with electric violin rather than viola in order to realize that dream.
Instead, she graduated college and began her career in the sale of software development tools. This exposed her to the world of software creation. She came over to the dark side and never looked back, beginning her technical career in networking and gradually moving towards building web applications. Her foray into Java development began during the "dotcom boom", where she learned the voice-over-ip business domain and developed internet telephone billing systems. Her next large project (C#/.NET) involved building a customizable human resources CRM. She eventually moved into developing and supporting "shrink-wrap" software for time-sheet, project management and invoicing, where she had the opportunity to talk to customers directly after implementing cool new features, finding out exactly how useful those features were.
In her spare time, Maureen cultivates her alter ego, Brunhilda, a resident of Valhalla, by lifting Russian kettlebells, rollerblading, and creating thunderbolts while listening to Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.
